Don’t you hate it when you’re ready for Fall but the weather just won’t cooperate? This is a real problem here in New Orleans! In my latest Instagram fashion post, I shared how I styled an outfit with an open cardigan. This was perfect for a weekend-casual transitional Fall outfit in our hot and humid climate.

The Open Cardigan – a Year-Round Wardrobe Staple
I lightweight sweater like this open cardigan is perfect for a Fall transitional look when you want to start wearing sweaters but the weather’s too hot. It’s also great for the Summer, to layer over your sleeveless tops when you’re sitting under an air conditioning vent at dinner on date-night.
My Weekend Outfit
For this casual weekend outfit, I layered a lightweight open cardigan in a space-dyed oatmeal shade (similar) over this dark grey tank by LOFT. On the bottom, I wore a medium-wash cropped skinny jean (similar).
Since it’s still too hot to break out the booties, I wore my favorite tan Tory Burch Miller sandals. I wear these all Spring and Summer. They are a staple in my warm-weather wardrobe because they go with almost everything and can make a casual outfit look more upscale. These Miller sandals are definitely worth the investment.
Complete the Look with Makeup
Here, I wore a very minimal makeup look. But you could add a dark matte lip like this one to help bring out that “Fall” vibe. As you can see, after Labor Day I’ve started wearing dark nail polish. This particular shade is You Don’t Know Jacques by OPI, and it’s one of my most favorite Fall/Winter nail colors. You’ll see me wearing this a lot over the next few months!
Transition into Fall with a Lightweight Sweater
With a neutral colored lightweight sweater like the one I wore here, you can dress for the season even if the weather isn’t cooperating. Plus, you’ll get lots of wear out of this sweater year-round by layering it over your sleeveless tops in the warmer months.
While the weather’s still hot, wear dressy flat sandals to complement the outfit and keep your feet cool. Then, once the weather cools down, break out those booties! 😉
